The Next Yes
We all go through transitions. Some are exciting, others are uncomfortable. But one of the greatest mistakes we can make is thinking that transition is simply about changing locations, positions, or circumstances. In God’s kingdom, transition is never just about where we’re going—it is about who we are becoming; which is more like Christ.
“And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, ‘Behold the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, ‘What do you seek?’ They said to Him, ‘Rabbi’ (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), ‘where are You staying?’ He said to them, ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).” John 1:36-39 NKJV
Week 1: From Control to Surrender
- In the Book of John there are four Greek words that John uses for see in this gospel.
- Transition is when God changes our direction. Transformation is when God changes our identity.
- Transition begins with a divine invitation, not a human strategy. Jesus turned, noticed the disciples, and invited them before they ever asked. God often initiates the next season before we fully understand it.
- Faith is not mastering techniques, formulas, or methods. It is developing awareness of where God is already at work and joining Him there.
- Let go of control, self-sufficiency, and striving. Receive God’s grace, trust His timing, and follow where He is leading rather than forcing your own path.
Prayer Points:
- Ask Holy Spirit to position your heart in fully surrender of to the Father’s will and His plan, and make decision to surrender your plans, timelines, and expectations to God.
- Pray for increased faith to believe that God is already at work and that His plans are always good even you cannot see the full picture of His plans yet and for patience while waiting for God’s purposes to unfold. Ask God to replace anxiety, worries, fear with His peace and confidence in His timing.
- Pray for a willing heart that follows Him wholeheartedly, letting go of control, self-sufficiency, striving, and to follow His leading, instructions in the direction He has prepared instead of relying on your own understanding or forcing your own path.
- Pray for a deeper desire to remain close to Him every day and ask Holy Spirit to transform your heart, attitudes, and desires from the inside out; to shape your characters into the likeness of Christ.
- Pray for ears that are sensitive to God’s voice that you are able to recognize His invitations and respond with faith and obedience. Ask for the courage to say “YES” when He calls.
Week 2: From Spectator to Participant
- The disciples’ journey changed the moment Jesus noticed them. Every God-led transition starts with Him moving first.
- Your next season begins with God’s initiative, not your strategy.
- Andrew and John left John the Baptist to follow Jesus. Healthy transition requires releasing what was to embrace what God is doing now.
- Jesus didn’t give them a lesson plan. He said, “Come and see.” Transformation grows from intimacy, not merely information.
- Before God changes what you do, He changes who you are. Simon became Peter because he was seen by Jesus. Transition isn’t just about a new role; it’s about becoming a new person. Read John 1:42.
- Transition happens when we respond to God’s invitation, and transformation happens when we stay in His presence.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for sensitivity to recognize when God is calling you into a new season and a willing heart to respond to His invitation with faith and obedience.
- Ask Holy Spirit to help you let go of past failures, disappointments, hurts, or success that keep you from moving forward and be willing to release everything to God. Ask for freedom from fear of change, faith, and courage to embrace the new season God has prepared for you.
- Pray that your identity will be rooted in Christ - who God says who you are rather than in your past, the circumstances around you, or what others say.
- Pray for God to transform you from the inside out, to become the “new you” as He calls you into the assignments He has prepared for you that you are no longer just a spectator, but to be an active participant in His kingdom.
- Ask Holy Spirit to fill you with the peace that surpasses understanding (Philippians 4:6) and confidence in His purpose that you are willing to fully surrender your personal plans to Him and to follow His directions and plans instead of relying on your own strength and understanding even when the path is unclear.
Week 3: From Following to Abiding
- Transformation starts when God interrupts your normal. Andrew and John’s lives changed the moment Jesus turned toward them. God often begins a transition with an encounter before He gives a direction.
- “What do you seek?” forced the disciples to confront their deepest desires. Healthy transition begins with honest reflection before decisive action.
- Knowledge fills your head; abiding changes your life. Jesus didn’t offer a class. He offered an invitation: “Come and see.” Real transformation happens through relationship, not just information.
- The disciples stayed with Him. In every season of transition, fruitfulness flows from presence, not performance.
- The cross-shaped testimony of Jesus is tied to the Spirit of Prophecy, with a focus on the journey of the cross and the fellowship of His sufferings.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for a fresh encounter and a heart that is sensitive to God’s voice and His divine interruptions. Ask God to prepare you for His purposes and every new season He has planned.
- Ask Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal anything that keeps you from fully following Jesus and for willingness to lay down everything at the cross.
- Pray for breaking free from a performance mentality and for shifting from hustling to prove your self-worth to resting in God’s unconditional love and start living in your true identity in Christ—deeply loved, fully accepted and forgiven, secured in His grace, chosen and called for a purpose.
- Pray for shifting of your focus from performance to His presence. Ask Holy Spirit to teach you to abide in God’s presence every day and have an intentional relationship that He can shape your thoughts, characters, and actions to align with His heart and plans for you.
- Pray for courage, perseverance, tenacity and the joy of The Lord to continually fill you when obedience is costly. “And do not be worried, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and your stronghold.” - Nehemiah 8:10
- As you walk through every transition, ask Holy Spirit to help you embrace the way of the cross, remain faithful in every circumstance, bear fruit that glorifies His name and that your life will become a testimony of His transforming grace.
Week 4: From Inquiry to Encounter
- Jesus didn’t give Andrew and John an address — He gave them an invitation: “Come and see.” Real transformation begins when we stop treating faith like information and start treating it like relationship.
- The disciples started as followers asking questions, but after spending time with Jesus, they became transformed people with a new identity and mission.
- You become like whatever you stay close to.
- You can be active in church and still disconnected from God internally. Transformation happens in stillness, not just activity.
- When Jesus changes your heart, your language, attitude, and lifestyle start changing too. A true spiritual transition affects your whole life — not just your Sunday habits.
Prayer Points:
- Pray for a deeper intentional relationship with Jesus and greater hunger for His presence that your faith will be marked by intimacy, love, and obedience rather than merely knowledge about Him.
- Pray for consistency in prayer and God’s Word to remain in His presence daily that your life be rooted in Christ and bear fruits for His glory.
- Pray that time spent with Jesus will transform your heart and characters that you will walk with the new identity and mission God has given you with courage, boldness and confidence.
- Ask Holy Spirit to examine your heart – reveal areas that are causing disconnection from God, and to position your heart attentive to God’s voice that you can remain close, aligned, and connected to Him every day.
- Pray that God’s transforming work be evident in every area of your life and so that your words, actions, relationships reflect Christ and your transformed life will point others to Jesus.
